This comes from the Durham City and County Sustainability Office:
Get Your Grass Off Gas!

The Durham City-County Sustainability Office is hosting two "Get Your Grass Off Gas" events in May. Exchange gas-powered (and high-polluting) lawnmowers or other yard equipment (trimmers, edgers, blowers, etc.) for deeply discounted electric models. Electric mowers and other types of yard equipment are cleaner, easier to use, and safer than gasoline versions. The Sustainability Office will responsibly recycle all gas equipment that is traded in as part of these events. Make sure that you responsibly drain your old equipment of all fluids before the event.

Saturday, May 12 at Durham County Stadium, 750 Stadium Dr.
Saturday, May 19 at Jordan High School, 6806 Garrett Rd.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more info or to pre-order: www.GreenerDurham.net or contact the Sustainability Office at 919-560-7999 / This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it '> This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Pre-registration is not required, but it is encouraged to make sure we have enough inventory on site the day of the event.

Sponsored by the City-County Sustainability Office and Black & Decker.

P.S. Durham’s Sustainability Office is still accepting applications to our Home Energy Savings Program, which provides energy efficiency retrofits to qualifying homes. Residents contribute $400 to receive up to $2000 worth of work, including duct sealing and attic insulation. Submit your initial application online: www.GreenerDurham.net

There is a new South Durham Farmer's Market sponsored by the Farmer's Organization of Durham (FOOD). The market opens THIS Saturday April 28 in Greenwood Commons at the corner of NC HWY 55 and Sedwick Road from 8am-12pm.

There is a website www.southdurhamfarmersmarket.org with lots of information about the vendors, the new market manager Ben Filippo and what makes this market different from any others in the area --community members. Not all 28 vendors will be attending this first market, so if you come looking for that certain something this weekend and don't find it, please come back and try us again. The vendor pool is a nice mix of experienced and seasoned Carrborro and Durham Farmer's market vendors, and a host a new farmers, many from Durham County who are unable to get into those bigger markets. There are traditional farmers, certified organic farmers, certified natural farmers, organic sustainable farmers, bakers, crafters, meat vendors, cheese makers, prepared food vendors and more. Something for everyone!

Volunteers are needed for the Woodlake Annual Easter Egg Hunt, April 7 at 10:00 AM. We are looking for a few volunteers to help make the hunt a fun event for the kids. First, we need several people to put drop-off boxes or baskets on their porch the week before the hunt to collect candy-filled plastic eggs from participants’ parents. We also need a few volunteers to be at the clubhouse at 9 AM on the morning of the hunt to help with setup and to hide eggs before the kids start arriving. If you would like to volunteer, please email Moria Brass, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I go to this sale each Spring/Fall and love it. I think it is a great size - big enough to have a lot of selection and good prices and yet small enough that I am not completely overwhelmed.
